Phantom Assassin vs Pugna

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst Pugna as Phantom Assassin is a race against his Decrepify. If he gets it off on you, your physical damage is nullified and you're left exposed in the middle of his team. On the other hand, Pugna is one of the squishiest heroes in the game. If Phantom Assassin can close the distance with Phantom Strike before he reacts, he dies almost instantly to a couple of crits. This creates a tense standoff where vision and reaction speed decide everything; one hero's entire game plan directly counters the other's, but only if they can execute it first.

This dynamic defines the matchup all game. Phantom Assassin needs to be clever about her initiations, often waiting for Pugna to show or use his spell on someone else. Her Black King Bar timing is critical, as it allows her to ignore Decrepify and guarantee a kill on him. In response, a good Pugna will position himself safely behind his teammates, ready to use Decrepify to save whoever PA jumps on. Even if PA has BKB, Pugna can still save his own carry, making the fight much harder for her to win.
