Phantom Assassin vs Troll Warlord

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map against a Phantom Assassin often hinges on surviving her initial burst, and Troll Warlord is well-equipped for this. His ranged Whirling Axes can apply a miss chance, directly reducing PA's physical damage before she even gets close. If she does commit with Phantom Strike, Troll can use Battle Trance to endure the assault and turn the engagement into a prolonged right-click battle. This fundamentally disrupts PA’s game plan of quickly eliminating a key target, forcing a fight on Troll's terms where his Fervor stacks give him an advantage.

This dynamic means Phantom Assassin has to be more careful about picking her targets and timings. Jumping a Troll Warlord who has his ultimate available is usually a mistake. Instead, she'll often want to hunt his supports or wait for him to commit Battle Trance on someone else before she engages him. Troll, in turn, can play more aggressively, knowing he has a safety net against PA’s signature burst. He can front-line for his team, pressure objectives, and dare her to start a fight he is prepared for, giving his team a slight initiative.
