Facing a Phantom Assassin late in the draft can be tricky for a physical damage core. Phantom Assassin’s Blur provides a constant defensive layer against Windranger’s main damage source, Focus Fire. This often forces the Windranger player to prioritize a Monkey King Bar, potentially delaying other key items needed for survival or control. This item dependency is where the small advantage comes from, as it puts pressure on Windranger's build from the start of the game.

In practice, fights between them become a duel of cooldowns. Phantom Assassin wants to use Phantom Strike to burst Windranger before she can react. Windranger's goal is to survive this initial burst with a well-timed Windrun, then find an angle for Shackleshot to turn the engagement around.
