Phantom Lancer vs Primal Beast

How this matchup plays

Dealing with a Phantom Lancer army can be a nightmare, but Primal Beast has some of the right tools for it. His Trample clears out weaker illusions very quickly, and Pulverize can pin down the real hero while damaging everything around him. This gives Primal Beast a way to find and burst the real Phantom Lancer before he gets out of control. However, a good PL can use Doppelganger to dodge the initial Onslaught charge, making it hard for the Beast to start his combo. The illusions also spread out, which can limit how much damage a single Trample can do.

This matchup often comes down to timing and itemization. If Primal Beast gets ahead, he can build to enhance his area damage and tankiness, making it tough for Phantom Lancer to get a foothold in fights. He can run at PL and force him out before he can contribute. But if the game goes later, Phantom Lancer's ability to drain mana with Diffusal Blade becomes a huge problem for a spell-dependent hero like Primal Beast. Once his mana is gone, the Beast is left with nothing but right-clicks against an army.
