Phantom Lancer vs Pudge

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst down Phantom Lancer with Rot seems like a good plan, but it's a double-edged sword. While the area of effect damage does clear out illusions, Pudge has to stand right in the middle of them to do it, taking damage himself and often giving away his position. The real contest here is between Meat Hook and Doppelganger. A successful hook on the real Phantom Lancer can absolutely decide a fight by pulling him away from his army for a Dismember. However, a well-timed Doppelganger makes landing that critical hook incredibly difficult, and a missed one leaves Pudge very vulnerable.

This creates a game that shifts back and forth. Early on, Pudge is a major threat, able to find and kill a still-farming Phantom Lancer with a single good play. As the game progresses and PL gets his core items, the dynamic can flip. The sheer number of illusions will body-block hooks meant for other targets, and PL's own physical damage starts to shred through Pudge's naturally low armor. Success often comes down to which player can better read the other in key teamfights, making this matchup a genuine toss-up.
