Phantom Lancer vs Clockwerk

How this matchup plays

Hookshotting into a crowd of illusions is a game-losing mistake, and that's the fundamental problem for Clockwerk here. His entire initiation and lockdown kit is designed to isolate and control a single hero. Battery Assault becomes completely unreliable against a Phantom Lancer, as the mini-stuns will almost always hit a worthless illusion instead of the real hero. Even if Clockwerk manages to land a perfect Hookshot, Phantom Lancer can simply use Doppelganger to dispel the stun and reposition, often leaving Clockwerk trapped inside his own Power Cogs with multiple mana-burning illusions.

This dynamic makes it incredibly difficult for Clockwerk to do his job as the game progresses. While he might be able to bully a weak Phantom Lancer in the lane, the matchup flips hard once PL gets a Diffusal Blade. Clockwerk can no longer confidently look for pickoffs on the enemy carry. He's forced to either cede map control or gamble on an initiation that will likely get him killed and achieve nothing. For Clockwerk's team to have a chance, they need to draft a lot of area-of-effect waveclear to deal with the illusions before he can even think about going in.
