Phantom Lancer vs Wraith King

How this matchup plays

Picking one of these carries into the other creates a specific problem of timings and resources. Wraith King is a durable, single-target brawler who wants to stun one hero and hit them until they die. This entire approach struggles against Phantom Lancer, whose illusions make finding the real target a nightmare. More importantly, the constant attacks from PL and his army, especially with a mana-draining item, directly threaten the mana pool Wraith King needs to cast Reincarnation. No mana means no second life.

The laning phase can be fine for Wraith King, where his stun and lifesteal offer a clear advantage. The game shifts dramatically once Phantom Lancer gets online. He can actively hunt a solo Wraith King, burning away his mana and ensuring he can't use his ultimate. This forces the WK to play much more passively or rely entirely on his teammates to provide the AoE control and damage needed to deal with the illusion swarm. If they can’t, Phantom Lancer will simply run him over.
