How this matchup plays

Landing a Meat Hook on Io often creates a coin-flip scenario. Because of Tether, pulling Io means you're almost always pulling their connected ally as well. If Pudge's team is ready, this can be a great initiation that brings a key enemy into kill range. But if you’re not prepared, you've essentially just delivered a dangerous enemy core right into your backline, turning a potential pickoff into a disastrous teamfight. The outcome depends entirely on which hero Io is attached to and whether your own team can react faster than the enemy.

This dynamic shapes the entire game. Pudge wants to find pickoffs on isolated heroes, but Io's game plan is to ensure its partner is never alone. The movement speed from Tether also makes hitting skillshots on either hero more difficult. Later on, Io can use Relocate to save a hero who gets hooked and Dismembered, pulling them to safety before the kill is secured. A well-timed hook from Pudge can cancel the Relocate channel, but it's a difficult play to rely on, leaving the matchup dependent on execution from both sides.
