Pugna vs Rubick

How this matchup plays

Stealing spells from Pugna can feel like a trap. The main problem is Nether Ward, which punishes Rubick for doing his job. Any spell he casts near the Ward, stolen or not, will cause him to take a burst of damage. This forces Rubick to play cautiously, often making him a prime target for Life Drain if he gets caught with low mana. While stealing Decrepify or Nether Blast can be useful, Pugna’s entire kit presents a unique risk that few other heroes do. Rubick has to constantly weigh the reward of a good steal against the danger of the Ward.

The matchup becomes a game of positioning and priorities. A successful Rubick will focus on finding and destroying the Nether Ward before committing to a teamfight, or use Telekinesis to catch Pugna from outside the Ward's range. A smart Pugna, in turn, will use clever Ward placement to protect his team and zone Rubick out entirely. Victory often depends on which of these two heroes better dictates the terms of engagement. If Rubick gets the jump, Pugna is fragile and dies quickly. If Pugna sets up his territory first, Rubick can feel completely useless.
