How this matchup plays

Trying to channel Life Drain on a target leaves Pugna rooted in place, offering a stationary target for Zeus's chain of lightning spells. Pugna's Nether Ward is normally a strong deterrent against spellcasters, but it's less effective against Zeus, whose abilities are spammable enough that the return damage isn't a major threat. A defensive Decrepify can also be a liability here; while it protects an ally from physical attacks, it amplifies all the magic damage Zeus is waiting to unload.

This pressure starts in the laning phase, where Zeus can consistently harass and zone Pugna from a distance. As the game progresses, Pugna wants to siege towers with his team, but this plays into Zeus's strength at defending against grouped-up pushes. To win this matchup, Pugna needs to coordinate with his team to lock Zeus down before he can react. Items that grant magic resistance or immunity are almost mandatory for Pugna to survive the initial burst and have a chance to turn the fight with his own powerful sustain and damage.
