Queen of Pain vs Io

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst a hero tethered to Io is where Queen of Pain’s game plan falls apart. Her entire kit is built around applying pressure with Shadow Strike and then delivering a lethal combo of Blink, Scream of Pain, and Sonic Wave. Io undermines all of this. The tethered ally gets healed, negating her poison, and more importantly, gets huge damage reduction from Overcharge right when she tries to land her ultimate. A target that should be dead simply survives the burst and turns the fight around, leaving QoP out of position with her big spells on cooldown.

This dynamic shuts down Queen of Pain's most effective window in the mid-game. Instead of finding solo pickoffs and snowballing, her gank attempts are constantly thwarted. Io and his partner can safely farm aggressive areas of the map, knowing that her burst isn't a real threat. To have a chance, QoP’s team needs to coordinate a gank on Io himself, but the Tether movement speed makes him surprisingly hard to catch. Otherwise, she’s forced to use Sonic Wave on targets that won't die, or wait for an opening that never comes.
