Facing Shadow Shaman as Rubick is a constant mind game. You're always hoping to grab a game-winning disable like Hex or Shackles, but a savvy Shaman player can control which spell you get. By casting Ether Shock last in a sequence, they often leave you with a simple nuke instead of the lockdown you need. Meanwhile, Shadow Shaman is great at killing Rubick. A quick initiation with his own disables is usually enough to lock down and eliminate the fragile Grand Magus before he can react, let alone steal a useful spell.

This dynamic forces Rubick to play cautiously from the start. Throughout the game, Shadow Shaman can proactively look for pickoffs, while Rubick is more reliant on reacting to the enemy's plays. The potential for Rubick to steal Mass Serpent Ward is always there and can single-handedly win a teamfight, which keeps the matchup from being one-sided. However, because Shadow Shaman has more direct and reliable ways to control engagements and secure kills, he tends to have an easier time executing his game plan.
