How this matchup plays

Laning against Sniper as a Rubick can be a real headache. Sniper's long attack range allows him to chip away at your health from a position of relative safety. While Rubick has Fade Bolt to secure some farm and reduce Sniper's damage, it's often not enough to stop the constant pressure. Stealing Assassinate is the big prize for Rubick, turning Sniper's own ultimate against his team, but this requires you to be in the right place at the right time and survive the initial damage. Stealing Shrapnel is far less impactful, leaving Rubick wanting for better spells from Sniper’s allies.

As the game progresses, this dynamic continues. Sniper finds a safe spot in the back of a fight and starts firing, while Rubick needs to find a way to get close. Without a Blink Dagger or a teammate's initiation, it's extremely risky for Rubick to walk up and use Telekinesis on the Sniper. This positioning puzzle gives Sniper's team a small but consistent edge, as he can usually contribute to fights more safely and earlier than Rubick can find his moment to make a decisive play.
