Rubick vs Winter Wyvern

How this matchup plays

Stealing a Winter's Curse feels like the whole point of this matchup, but good Winter Wyvern players know this. They will almost always cast Splinter Blast or Arctic Burn immediately after their ultimate, making it difficult for Rubick to get the spell he wants. This turns the interaction into a mind game. While Curse is the grand prize, all of Wyvern's other spells are excellent for Rubick to steal. A well-timed Cold Embrace can save a core from the enemy's own damage, and Splinter Blast is a solid farming and fighting tool that Rubick otherwise lacks.

The result is a delicate dance in teamfights. Winter Wyvern can use her long attack range from Arctic Burn to stay far back, making it risky for Rubick to get close enough for a steal. She can also use Cold Embrace to save an ally Rubick lifts with Telekinesis, disrupting his initiation. Victory for either hero often comes down to who has better positioning and who can bait the other into making a mistake first. The pressure isn't one-sided; it's a constant test of awareness from both supports, where a single misclick or greedy play can lose the fight.
