Shadow Demon vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Picking Shadow Demon into a Witch Doctor often feels like you're bringing the wrong tool for the job. Witch Doctor’s entire game plan revolves around locking a target down with Paralyzing Cask and Maledict before bursting them with Death Ward. Shadow Demon’s primary defensive tool, Disruption, can save an ally from the Ward, but it doesn't stop the channel. This leaves Shadow Demon himself with no way to interrupt the ultimate if he gets focused. In fact, the illusions created by his own spell can give Paralyzing Cask more targets to bounce between, prolonging the lockdown on his team.

Across a match, this creates a one-sided mind game. The Witch Doctor player simply has to wait for Disruption to be used on someone else, or they can choose to target Shadow Demon directly, who is too fragile to survive the combo. This forces the Shadow Demon to play incredibly cautiously, often holding his most important spell for a threat that might not even be directed at his core. The initiative belongs to Witch Doctor, who can apply constant pressure and force a reactive, and often losing, play from the opposing support.
