Shadow Shaman vs Troll Warlord

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map and taking early objectives is often easier when playing against a Troll Warlord. The main reason is Shadow Shaman's chain-disables. Troll wants to stand his ground and build up attack speed with Fervor, especially during Battle Trance. But a well-timed Hex or Shackle completely stops him from attacking, leaving him vulnerable for a long time. Even if Troll activates his ultimate to survive the initial burst, he's still locked down while his team gets scattered, and Shaman's team can position to finish him once the effect ends.

Throughout the mid-game, Shadow Shaman will look for pickoffs on Troll with a Blink Dagger, trying to catch him farming. A successful gank can lead directly to taking a tower with Mass Serpent Ward, compounding the lead. Troll Warlord's primary goal becomes getting a Black King Bar as soon as he can. Once he has it, he can shrug off the lockdown and run at the Shaman. The game then becomes about timing: Troll trying to force fights while his BKB is active, and Shaman trying to kite and wait it out, or catch Troll before he can react.
