How this matchup plays

Trying to close the gap on Sniper is a nightmare for Timbersaw. Even a good Timber Chain into the backlines is often met with a field of Shrapnel, slowing him to a crawl before he can get close enough to use his spells. While he's stuck, Sniper can freely attack from a safe distance, with Headshot procs keeping Timbersaw from ever reaching melee range. Timbersaw is built to be a durable front-liner, but his tankiness doesn't matter when he can't connect with his target and is being kited across the entire battlefield before he can contribute.

This dynamic forces the Timbersaw player into buying specific items like a Blink Dagger simply to have a chance of initiation. Without that element of surprise, Sniper completely dictates the pace of teamfights. He can set up his position far away, using his range to see Timbersaw coming and react accordingly. The fight becomes about whether Timbersaw can find a flank and a perfect chain before Sniper and his team can reposition, and usually, the odds are heavily stacked against him. He's often left chaining into a bad spot with no follow-up.
