Silencer vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Thinking Global Silence is a guaranteed counter to Death Ward is a common trap. While Silencer can stop the channel from anywhere, it's a matter of who acts first. Witch Doctor has his own ways to interrupt, and a well-bounced Paralyzing Cask can easily stun Silencer before he gets a chance to use his ultimate. The cooldown on Global Silence is also a major factor; Witch Doctor can force a reaction with an early Death Ward and then have a huge window to be effective while Silencer's best answer is unavailable. It becomes a duel of reaction time and positioning.

The matchup often comes down to which hero gets the jump on the other. In lane, they trade harass fairly evenly. In mid-game teamfights, if Witch Doctor finds a good hiding spot and starts his channel, Silencer might be dead before he can press the button. Conversely, if Silencer's team initiates, his ultimate can shut down the fight before Witch Doctor contributes anything. It's a knife's edge where the better-positioned player with faster reactions will usually win the engagement for their team, leading to a very even back-and-forth across the game.
