Skywrath Mage vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Controlling the map often comes down to which of these two gets the drop on the other. Skywrath Mage has all the tools to delete a single target from a safe distance, making a poorly positioned Witch Doctor an easy kill. The combination of a silence and massive magic burst can remove him from a fight before he contributes anything. On the other hand, Witch Doctor’s Paralyzing Cask can stun a Skywrath who gets too aggressive, and Maledict ensures that any damage he takes will be amplified, often leading to a return kill.

Later in the game, this duel becomes about shutting down the other's ultimate. A Skywrath Mage will actively look to land Ancient Seal on Witch Doctor to prevent a Death Ward channel from ever starting, effectively neutralizing his biggest teamfight spell. Conversely, Witch Doctor’s team will try to bait Skywrath’s spells or wait for him to be locked down before committing Death Ward. Because both heroes are fragile and rely on getting their spells off at the right moment, the fight often goes to whoever has the better positioning and quicker reaction.
