Sniper vs Troll Warlord

How this matchup plays

Closing the distance is everything for Troll Warlord in this matchup. He has to get on top of Sniper to be effective, otherwise he just gets kited and picked apart from a distance. A Blink Dagger is often essential for Troll to make the first move. If he can jump in and get his melee Whirling Axes off, the miss chance can cripple Sniper’s damage. For Sniper, the entire game is about maintaining that distance. He uses Shrapnel to control space and scout for ganks, hoping to see Troll coming long before he can get close enough to become a threat.

The dynamic shifts heavily based on timings and team support. During the lane, Sniper can usually harass Troll fairly well. But once Troll Warlord gets an item to initiate, the pressure is immense. If he successfully jumps Sniper with Battle Trance active, Sniper usually melts. The fight then becomes about vision control and team positioning. If Sniper’s allies can provide a frontline and peel for him, he can safely attack. If Troll’s team can create chaos for him to find his opening, he’ll have a much easier time deleting the priority target.
