Sniper vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Thinking that a slow-moving target is easy food for Venomancer's poison is the main trap here. The problem is that Sniper operates from so far away that Venomancer can't even get close enough to apply his spells effectively. Trying to walk up to cast a Venomous Gale means taking several auto-attacks to the face, and Sniper's damage is all upfront. By the time Venomancer gets his damage-over-time applied, he's often already dead or forced to retreat, leaving Sniper to freely attack the rest of the team from a safe distance.

This dynamic plays out all game. During the lane, Sniper can safely farm and deny while punishing any attempt from Venomancer to get close. Later on, Sniper sets up shop on high ground or deep in the backline. For Venomancer to be effective with something like Poison Nova, he has to find a way to dive past the front line, which is exactly where Sniper wants him. Venomancer needs a perfect jump with an item like a Blink Dagger, while Sniper simply needs his team to create a pocket of space for him to right-click.
