Spectre vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Picking a Venomancer against a late-pick Spectre is a draft you'll regret. All of Venomancer's damage is slow and spread out over time, and that's exactly what fuels Spectre's Dispersion. Every tick of poison from his wards, auto-attacks, and especially his Poison Nova gets reflected back to his entire team. Spectre doesn't even need to focus Venomancer directly; his own spells will do most of the work for her. She can also use Haunt to jump straight onto him, ignoring any Plague Wards or defensive positioning to secure an easy kill on a hero with no escape.

The game becomes a race against time. Venomancer has to try and win the game with his team before Spectre gets her key items. Once she's farmed, teamfights are a nightmare. If Venomancer uses his ultimate, he's basically signing his team's death warrant as they all melt from the reflected damage. His only option is to hope his teammates build items to disengage or lock Spectre down, but even then, it's an uphill battle. Spectre just has to survive the laning stage, and from there she can turn Venomancer's greatest strength into his biggest weakness.
