Spectre vs Void Spirit

How this matchup plays

Trying to burst a hero down is Void Spirit's entire plan, but this falls flat against Spectre. A good chunk of his spell damage from abilities like Dissimilate is simply reflected back at him by Dispersion, making any assassination attempt a costly trade. More importantly, Spectre's Haunt completely neutralizes Void Spirit's map control. The moment he uses Astral Step to jump on a vulnerable support, Spectre can appear and turn the gank on its head, isolating Void Spirit himself and punishing the aggression. He wants to create chaos and pickoffs, but that's the exact environment Spectre is built to dominate.

Void Spirit has a window in the mid-game to get his team ahead before Spectre comes online. His best bet is to snowball other lanes hard and hope to end before she becomes a problem. Once Haunt is available, though, the game gets much harder. Every move Void Spirit makes has to account for Spectre showing up out of nowhere. Late game, the matchup becomes miserable for him. Spectre can initiate on him from anywhere on the map, and he lacks the health or sustained damage to fight back. He becomes a primary target that can't escape, forced to play defensively.
