Spirit Breaker vs Io

How this matchup plays

Catching a tethered pair can be tricky, but Charge of Darkness makes it much simpler. Spirit Breaker's Charge gives constant vision of its target, so Io and their partner can't easily juke into trees or use Relocate without revealing their destination. Once Spirit Breaker arrives, the stun from Charge into a Nether Strike provides a long duration of lockdown. This is frequently enough to isolate and burst Io before they can use Tether to reposition or receive help from their team.

The dynamic of the matchup, however, hinges on who Io is enabling. If Io's partner can survive Spirit Breaker's initial burst, often with help from Overcharge's damage reduction, they can usually turn and kill him. A well-timed Relocate can also pull a core to safety before Charge even connects, completely negating the gank attempt. It forces Spirit Breaker to be very careful about his target selection, as charging a durable hero tethered to Io is often a fatal mistake for him.
