Templar Assassin vs Venomancer

How this matchup plays

Venomancer's constant damage over time effects are the perfect counter to Refraction. Each tick of poison from his abilities counts as a separate instance of damage, meaning a single spell like Venomous Gale can strip away most of Templar Assassin's defensive charges in an instant. This leaves her completely exposed to follow-up attacks and spells. Her low health pool and lack of a natural escape mechanism mean that once Refraction is gone and she's slowed, there's very little she can do. Templar Assassin relies on blocking big hits, and Venomancer's kit is designed to overwhelm that plan with many small ones.

This dynamic makes the entire game difficult for Templar Assassin. Laning becomes a struggle against constant harassment that she can't mitigate. Later, when she wants to hit her timings and hunt for solo kills, Venomancer's Plague Wards can provide vision that foils her surprise attacks. Even if she successfully blinks on a target, a defensive Poison Nova from Venomancer will ensure her Refraction disappears, turning her from the hunter into the hunted. She wants to execute targets quickly, but he excels at dragging out fights and grinding opponents down.
