Treant Protector vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Trying to lock down a team with Overgrowth often feels less effective when a Witch Doctor is on the other side. Since Overgrowth is a root, it doesn't interrupt channels, meaning Witch Doctor can still cast a full Death Ward while entangled. This puts the burden of stopping his ultimate onto another hero on Treant Protector's team. Furthermore, Maledict is a good tool against durable heroes. The spell's final damage burst is based on health lost while the debuff is active, which can punish Treant for surviving initial attacks and finish him off through his high armor and regeneration.

The matchup isn't one-sided, but it does create an awkward problem for Treant Protector in teamfights. A successful fight for Witch Doctor involves him positioning safely, waiting out the initial disables, and using Death Ward once Treant has committed. Treant's best response is to use Nature's Guise to get a surprise initiation directly on top of Witch Doctor before he can react. It becomes a game of positioning and surprise, but the fact that Treant's signature teamfight spell doesn't solve the problem of a channeled ultimate gives Witch Doctor a small but noticeable advantage.
