How this matchup plays

Picking Ursa into a potential Io game means you're accepting that your main job will be harder. Ursa thrives on isolating a target and bursting them down with Overpower and Fury Swipes before they can react. Io is built to counter exactly that plan. The Tether provides a speed boost to help an ally create distance, while Overcharge adds a layer of damage reduction that can be enough to survive the initial onslaught. Even if Ursa commits Enrage and gets his target low, Io can often save them with heals or a last-second Relocate. This forces Ursa to reconsider his primary targets constantly.

Throughout the game, the Ursa player is looking for a window where Io is out of position or has used his spells. A successful gank often requires killing Io first, which isn't always feasible. The Io player, in turn, will try to shadow whichever core Ursa is most likely to jump on, keeping Tether ready. This dynamic doesn't shut Ursa down completely, as he can still overwhelm a target if his team helps control Io, but it does mean his ideal fight scenario is much harder to find. Io's defensive toolkit provides a consistent obstacle to Ursa's aggression.
