Ursa vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Trying to run down a target as Ursa is hard enough, but Witch Doctor makes it a nightmare. A well-aimed Paralyzing Cask can stop Ursa's aggression cold, stunning him repeatedly and letting allies escape. Even if he does connect, Maledict punishes him for committing to the fight; any return damage he takes is amplified and often proves lethal after a few seconds. Ursa’s entire game plan revolves around sustained aggression to build up damage, and Witch Doctor’s spells are fundamentally designed to interrupt and punish exactly that.

This pressure starts in the lane and never really lets up. An early Ursa has no good way to deal with the constant threat of Cask and Maledict. Later on, his Blink Dagger initiation can be completely shut down, forcing him to buy a Black King Bar much earlier than he'd like. Witch Doctor’s goal is simple: stay in the back, use spells to peel for whoever Ursa jumps, and drop Death Ward once the fight is chaotic. Ursa is forced into a difficult position, needing to find and instantly delete the Witch Doctor before his own aggression turns against him.
