Warlock vs Io

How this matchup plays

Trying to land a big teamfight ultimate on Io's partner often feels like a waste. Warlock excels at punishing grouped enemies with Fatal Bonds and Chaotic Offering, but Io's entire job is saving a single, high-value ally. A well-timed Tether and Overcharge can be enough to let a core survive the initial golem impact and stun, buying precious seconds. Furthermore, Relocate acts as a hard reset, letting Io pull his ally out of the fight entirely, even if they're stuck in the middle of Upheaval. Warlock's spells want a static fight, and Io is built to prevent exactly that.

The matchup often comes down to which hero's team better enables their plan. Warlock’s side needs to find and burst Io first or apply enough lockdown that a Relocate save isn't possible. If they can force Io out before the main initiation, the fight becomes much simpler. On the other hand, Io's team wants to play around his save potential, baiting out the big spells and then turning the fight once Warlock has committed his ultimate. It’s a constant battle of positioning and timing where neither hero has a clear, built-in advantage.
