Warlock vs Witch Doctor

How this matchup plays

Fighting into a Warlock as Witch Doctor, and the reverse, creates a tense standoff. Both heroes want to stay on the edge of a fight and land their massive, game-winning ultimates. The problem is, they are also perfect tools for stopping each other. A well-placed Paralyzing Cask from Witch Doctor can interrupt Warlock's Upheaval, and if it bounces right, can even stop his Golems from running amok for a moment. Conversely, the stun from Chaotic Offering is a clean and reliable way to cancel Death Ward. Both Maledict and Fatal Bonds make the other support an extremely fragile and high-priority target for the rest of the team.

This dynamic means teamfights often hinge on which of the two gets initiated on first. If the Warlock gets jumped, he likely dies before getting his ultimate off, leaving his team without their core teamfight spell. The same is true for Witch Doctor; getting caught by the Golem drop means he probably won't be channeling Death Ward that fight. It forces a game of vision control and careful positioning, where each team tries to protect their own spellcaster while finding an angle to burst down the enemy's. The better-positioned support usually dictates the outcome.
