Why this works
Trying to enable a Lycan during Shapeshift can be awkward for Abaddon. When Lycan commits to a deep dive, he often outpaces his own team, making it difficult for Abaddon to get in range for a crucial Aphotic Shield or Mist Coil. While a shield can certainly save Lycan from an initial stun, he's usually so far forward that the follow-up focus fire is too much for a single defensive spell to handle. Abaddon excels at turning around ganks on his allies, but Lycan's all-in playstyle means he's either getting the kill and surviving on his own, or getting blown up far from help. The pair just don't enable each other's core game plan very well.
