Abaddon + Rubick

Why this works

Trying to burst Rubick down before he can use a stolen spell is a core part of playing against him. Abaddon makes this much harder. An Aphotic Shield at the right time not only absorbs damage but, more importantly, can purge off a stun or a silence. This buys Rubick the crucial second he needs to escape or turn the fight with a huge stolen spell. The combination is less about a direct offensive combo and more about Abaddon providing a safety net, allowing Rubick to take riskier positions to secure a better Spell Steal.

This dynamic creates a real dilemma for opponents during teamfights. Focusing Rubick can be a waste of cooldowns if Abaddon is nearby to save him. On the other hand, trying to kill Abaddon first is often pointless because of Borrowed Time. This hesitation from the enemy is where the pairing finds its advantage. The duo lacks strong, proactive lockdown to set up kills on their own, so they depend on the enemy making the first move. This keeps the advantage conditional, relying on Rubick finding the right spell and the enemy's willingness to commit.
