Controlling the map becomes much easier when Phantom Lancer’s sustained damage can’t be healed away. Ancient Apparition’s Ice Blast is the perfect tool to ensure PL’s illusion army secures kills instead of just forcing retreats. Enemies who would normally survive the swarm by regenerating or lifestealing are left vulnerable. As Phantom Lancer whittles down multiple heroes, Ice Blast threatens to shatter them from anywhere on the map. AA’s other slows also help keep targets trapped within the illusion swarm, making it nearly impossible to escape the constant damage.

The game plan is straightforward: Phantom Lancer farms and splits the map, drawing attention. The moment a real fight starts, a global Ice Blast turns the engagement. This forces opponents into a difficult position. They need area-of-effect damage to handle the illusions, but they also need ways to survive the healing block and potential shatter. This often leads to reactive, inefficient item builds. Their best bet is to try and burst down the Ancient Apparition early in fights or catch PL before he has Doppelganger ready.
