Anti-Mage + Magnus

Why this works

Facing this duo rarely feels threatening in the early stages. The core problem is that both Magnus and Anti-Mage are exceptionally greedy heroes who need a lot of farm to be effective. They end up competing for safe farm on the map, slowing each other down. While Empower gives a nice damage boost, its cleave becomes redundant once Anti-Mage buys his Battle Fury. Their game plans are also fundamentally opposed. Magnus wants to find teamfights with Reverse Polarity, but Anti-Mage’s goal is to avoid fights, split the map, and farm for as long as possible.

This conflict in priorities leaves their team vulnerable for a huge portion of the game. Opponents can freely pressure the map and take objectives, knowing that Anti-Mage isn't ready to join fights and Magnus often lacks the items to create space on his own. By the time Anti-Mage has his core items, his team is often already playing from a major deficit. Even though a late-game Reverse Polarity can set up a powerful Mana Void, the struggle to get to that point without falling too far behind is what defines this partnership.
