Anti-Mage + Mars

Why this works

Setting up a perfect Arena of Blood often creates a problem for this lineup. Mars excels at forcing a stationary, prolonged fight inside his ultimate, but this is the opposite of what Anti-Mage wants to do for most of the game. Anti-Mage thrives by split-pushing and using Blink to weave in and out of combat, picking off isolated targets. He has little ability to contribute sustained damage to a group of enemies trapped in the arena, especially early on. He is built to be evasive, not to brawl inside a confined space.

This timing clash defines the entire game. Mars hits his peak and wants to group up for teamfights, but Anti-Mage is still busy farming his core items across the map. This forces the rest of the team to play four-on-five during critical mid-game windows. The enemy can exploit this by either taking fights they know they can win or by pushing objectives while Mars lacks the team damage to defend. By the time Anti-Mage is ready to join, the game is often too far gone to salvage.
