Doom + Sniper

Why this works

Casting Doom on a high-priority enemy is a great way to start a fight, but it doesn't solve Sniper's core problem: staying alive. Once Doom's ultimate is spent, he offers very little in the way of peels or stuns to protect a static back-liner from the enemy's remaining heroes. He wants to run at targets with Scorched Earth and brawl, while Sniper needs a bodyguard to create a safe pocket from which to shoot. Doom is an executioner, not a guardian, and this leaves Sniper vulnerable to any coordinated dive from the enemy team.

This dynamic means that enemy teams can often make a simple trade. They lose their Doomed hero for the duration of the spell, but in return, they can collapse on the unprotected Sniper. The success of this duo often falls entirely on Sniper's ability to position perfectly without any help, which is a tall order. While Doom is busy chasing down his isolated target, the rest of the fight is happening elsewhere, and Sniper is frequently the first casualty. A more defensive front-liner would give him the space he needs to operate effectively.
