Why this works

Putting Black Hole and Chain Frost together seems straightforward, but the reality is less explosive than you'd think. While a clumped group of enemies is the ideal target for Lich's ultimate, a successful Black Hole often wins the fight on its own. The follow-up damage from Chain Frost can feel like overkill rather than a necessary component for success. Outside of this specific ultimate combination, Enigma and Lich don't offer each other much. Their laning phases are typically separate, and their other abilities don't interact in a particularly meaningful way, leading to a partnership that looks better on paper than it feels in-game.

The success of this duo really depends on Enigma finding the right moment. If he lands his ultimate, Lich provides simple and effective follow-up. Frost Shield on a channeling Enigma can also be quite helpful, buying him crucial extra seconds to complete the spell against enemies who get a few hits off. However, the team's entire game plan can't revolve around this one interaction. Both heroes have long cooldowns, and if the enemy team plays split or focuses Enigma before he can act, the synergy vanishes. It's a decent pairing when the stars align, but not a reliable foundation for a draft.
