Why this works

Opposing teams get a feast of powerful spells to steal. Gyrocopter's entire kit, from Homing Missile to Call Down, is a prime target for any enemy that can copy abilities. When Rubick is on Gyrocopter's team instead, this dynamic flips into a disadvantage. The lane itself lacks a reliable lockdown chain. Telekinesis lifts a target, but that allows them to avoid Rocket Barrage damage. Gyrocopter’s own stun is slow and easily destroyed, so he can’t set up for Rubick either. They simply don't enable each other.

This disconnect persists throughout the game. Gyrocopter needs support that can save him from being jumped on or hold enemies down for him, and Rubick typically offers neither. He's an opportunist looking for a big spell, not a dedicated bodyguard. If the enemy team's spell pool is poor, Rubick's impact plummets, leaving Gyrocopter feeling exposed. The pair struggles to create its own advantages and instead hopes the enemy draft provides Rubick with the tools he needs to function, which is rarely a winning strategy.
