Invoker + Lich

Why this works

Setting up a kill for an Invoker often comes down to holding a target still, and Lich provides a reliable way to do that. Sinister Gaze can lock down a key enemy, giving Invoker a clear window to land a global Sun Strike or a full combo like Meteor and Deafening Blast. Lich's slows from Frost Blast and Chain Frost also make it much harder for enemies to escape once Invoker begins his assault. On top of that, a well-timed Frost Shield can give a stationary Invoker the extra durability he needs to finish casting his spells without being immediately burst down.

This partnership typically shines during mid-game ganks and skirmishes. A successful rotation from Lich can turn into a kill anywhere on the map as long as Invoker is ready. Opponents will adapt by buying Black King Bars to negate the magic damage and control, or by trying to split push and avoid direct fights. The duo's effectiveness can fall off if the enemy team has multiple mobile heroes who can disengage easily or simply jump on Invoker from an unexpected angle, forcing Lich to use his defensive spells before the fight has even started properly.
