Lich + Rubick

Why this works

Layering slows and disables allows this pair to control the pace of a lane without much coordination. Lich can apply Frost Shield or Frost Blast from a distance, slowing an enemy down so Rubick can easily land Telekinesis. This setup gives Lich time to walk in and channel Sinister Gaze, extending the lockdown. While this chain of control is effective for setting up kills, the duo's own burst damage is fairly low, meaning they often need a core nearby to secure the kill or are forced to burn a lot of mana for pressure.

This lane pressure can secure a safe early game for a core, but the pairing can feel underwhelming later. The success of the duo often depends on how the game unfolds around them. If Rubick fails to steal a significant spell, or if Lich's Chain Frost finds no good targets, their teamfight impact is reduced to basic crowd control and slows. They enable their team well, but rarely take over a game by themselves, leading to a fairly standard outcome that relies more on their allies' performance.
