Magnus + Shadow Shaman

Why this works

Picking these two heroes together hinges entirely on executing one big ultimate combination. A good Reverse Polarity from Magnus groups enemies up perfectly for Shadow Shaman to lock down a key target with Hex or Shackles. Following that up with Mass Serpent Ward inside the stun duration can melt an entire team before they have a chance to react. Outside of that single play, however, their abilities don't offer much to each other. Magnus's Empower buff is mostly wasted on a support, and his Skewer can sometimes move an enemy out of Shaman's ideal position.

The game then becomes a waiting game for Reverse Polarity's cooldown. When it's available, the Magnus and Shadow Shaman duo can coordinate a smoke gank or force a teamfight, hoping to land that fight-winning setup. Alert opponents will anticipate this by spreading out, maintaining vision, and holding abilities to cancel Shaman's channeling spells. Because the success of the pairing is so dependent on landing one specific ultimate on a long cooldown, the overall result feels very hit-or-miss, leading to an inconsistent performance from one game to the next.
