Monkey King + Void Spirit

Why this works

Pairing two aggressive, mobile cores seems like a great idea for dominating the mid-game, but these two heroes often step on each other's toes. The reality is that Monkey King and Void Spirit compete for the same role in a fight. Both want to be the one initiating on a target and delivering the killing blow. Monkey King needs targets held in place to build Jingu Mastery stacks, but Void Spirit's control from Aether Remnant is brief and can pull enemies into awkward spots for a melee carry. They don't set each other up so much as get in each other's way.

This conflict plays out across the map during their shared mid-game timing. Instead of coordinating, they often end up splitting farm or trying to gank the same lane, which can leave other areas of the map vulnerable. Monkey King doesn't get the sustained lockdown he needs to use Wukong's Command effectively, and Void Spirit doesn't get the durable frontline he can play behind. The result is two powerful solo-kill heroes who fail to amplify each other, leading to a disjointed game plan where neither can fully take over.
