Rubick + Spectre

Why this works

Committing to a Spectre pick often means the other four heroes need to be self-sufficient and capable of setting up her kills. Rubick fits this plan perfectly. Once Spectre uses Haunt to isolate a target, Rubick provides the instant, reliable lockdown with Telekinesis that she completely lacks. This guarantees she can secure the kill without the victim simply teleporting away or using an escape. The global presence of Haunt also forces enemies to use their most powerful spells in a panic, giving Rubick a prime selection of abilities to steal for the ensuing teamfight.

This pairing creates problems for the enemy at all stages. During the laning phase, Rubick’s presence can deter aggression and help secure the space Spectre needs to farm. Later on, a single Haunt can start a fight anywhere, and Rubick will always have a powerful follow-up, either with his base kit or a freshly stolen ultimate. Opponents are caught in a difficult position: they must deal with Spectre appearing on their supports, but they also can't ignore the threat of Rubick turning their own abilities against them in the chaos.
