Abaddon vs Doom

How this matchup plays

Picking between these two often comes down to how you view the ultimate matchup. Doom's signature spell is undispellable, meaning Aphotic Shield won't save an ally who gets caught. Abaddon can, however, use his shield to remove any follow-up stuns and apply strong heals to help a teammate survive through the damage. If Doom targets Abaddon himself, it's frequently a poor trade. Borrowed Time will still trigger automatically under the damage, making Abaddon incredibly durable while he's muted and unable to cast spells anyway. It negates a fight-winning ultimate by using it on a hero content to soak damage.

Fights therefore revolve around Doom’s target selection. If he lands a good ultimate on a fragile core, Abaddon’s team is forced into a desperate scramble to heal them through the focus fire, which isn't always possible. But if Doom uses his spell on Abaddon or another low-priority target, the engagement can fall apart for his team. This creates a tense standoff where Doom has to find the perfect opening, while the Abaddon player simply needs to position correctly and dare him to commit to the wrong hero.
