How this matchup plays

Fighting against an Abaddon often means dealing with his team grouping around him when Borrowed Time activates. This creates an ideal scenario for Lich's Chain Frost to bounce between multiple heroes. While Aphotic Shield can dispel the slow from Frost Blast, it can’t stop the larger threat. Lich can also use Sinister Gaze to hold a target in place, making it even easier to land a multi-hero ultimate when Abaddon's team tries to collapse and save them, turning their rescue attempt into a liability.

This dynamic tends to influence mid-game teamfights. The Lich player will often hold their ultimate, waiting for Abaddon to commit and trigger his own. The pressure is then on Abaddon's team to not panic and clump together while he is trying to heal them. A well-placed shield can help a teammate escape, but a successful Chain Frost can punish the clustered positioning that Borrowed Time encourages. This forces a level of spacing discipline that can be difficult to maintain through a chaotic fight.
