Abaddon vs Sniper

How this matchup plays

Trying to finish a kill with Assassinate often feels pointless against Abaddon. His ultimate, Borrowed Time, can trigger automatically and completely waste the spell, healing him up instead of securing the kill. Abaddon can also use Aphotic Shield to remove the slow from Shrapnel, which is Sniper's main tool for kiting and controlling space. This allows Abaddon or his allies to break free and continue closing the distance on Sniper's position, making it difficult for the marksman to dictate the fight.

The problem for Abaddon is reaching Sniper in the first place. Due to his extreme range, Sniper can position so far back that he's not the primary target. While Abaddon is busy with the enemy frontline, Sniper can safely chip away at him and his team. The outcome of a fight often hinges on whether Abaddon’s team has enough gap-close to collapse on Sniper. If they can't, Sniper dictates the engagement from a distance, making Abaddon's presence much less impactful.
