Ancient Apparition vs Axe

How this matchup plays

Getting hit by Ice Blast completely changes how Axe has to approach a fight. He often relies on sustaining through aggression with his own regeneration, but Ancient Apparition's ultimate shuts all of that down. An Axe tagged by the debuff can't blink into the enemy team and expect to survive the return damage from Blade Mail or enemy spells. At the same time, Ancient Apparition is a slow, fragile hero—a perfect target for a Blink Dagger and Berserker's Call. If Axe can find and jump him before a fight breaks out, the threat is gone.

The mid-game revolves around this dynamic. Axe's team will play for vision control to find and eliminate Ancient Apparition, often before he can even position for his ultimate. A successful gank on AA usually means key objectives are free for the taking. In response, AA's team has to play protect-the-support, using their own vision and positioning to keep him safe. Fights often come down to which hero executes their main job first: a team-wide Ice Blast from AA, or a disabling Call onto him from Axe.
