Picking a hero who relies on heavy regeneration to survive fights can feel risky against an Ancient Apparition. Doom's game plan often involves casting his ultimate on a key target and then tanking the return fire, healing back up with items or his own abilities. Ancient Apparition’s Ice Blast completely shuts down that strategy. A well-placed global from AA means that once Doom commits to a fight, any damage he takes is permanent for its duration. This forces him to either buy uncharacteristic defensive items or play far more cautiously than he'd like, limiting his impact.

The advantage isn't overwhelming, though. A smart Doom player can simply use his ultimate on Ancient Apparition himself to remove the Ice Blast threat from the fight entirely. The matchup often becomes a game of cat-and-mouse, where AA tries to stay hidden to land his ultimate, while Doom hunts for him before the engagement begins. If Ice Blast is on cooldown or misses its mark, Doom is free to play his game as normal.
