Ancient Apparition vs Lion

How this matchup plays

Getting clipped by Ice Blast is a huge problem for Lion. He's a fragile hero who often survives fights by the skin of his teeth after using his spells. Ancient Apparition's ultimate completely shuts down any chance of that. The healing prevention means no support saves him, and the shatter threshold means that if he drops low while under its effect, he’s as good as dead. Any attempt to Blink out and salve up is punished, turning a successful gank into a trade he can’t afford.

The lane and later teamfights become a duel of initiation. Lion will prioritize a Blink Dagger to jump on and burst Ancient Apparition with Earth Spike and Finger of Death, removing the global threat before it can be used. In response, the Ancient Apparition player must have incredible positioning, staying far back and relying on his team for vision and protection. If Lion finds him, he dies. If he lands a good Ice Blast on Lion, Lion dies. It’s a true coin flip that depends entirely on who gets the drop on whom.
