Ancient Apparition vs Phantom Assassin

How this matchup plays

Jumping onto an Ancient Apparition is exactly what a Phantom Assassin wants to do all game. AA is fragile and immobile, making him a prime target for Phantom Strike. Without his team right there, he dies almost instantly. However, Ancient Apparition has tools that directly counter what PA wants to do. A well-placed Ice Vortex makes her much easier to kite, and Cold Feet can lock her down if she has no answer for the stun. The main problem for PA is Ice Blast, which completely stops her from healing or lifestealing, turning her from a durable fighter into a fragile target.

This whole matchup comes down to positioning and initiation. The Phantom Assassin will spend the game looking for an angle to get on top of Ancient Apparition, often waiting for a Black King Bar timing to ignore his spells and secure the kill. AA has to play from the back lines, using his team as a shield. His only job is to survive long enough to land a good Ice Blast on PA during a teamfight. Whichever hero finds and executes their target first usually decides the outcome of the fight, making this a very even contest.
